Educational Activities

Fellows will learn the pathophysiology and management of simple and complex neonatal conditions. Unique to our location, unlike other tertiary care centers in the region, our fellows frequently encounter clinical situations associated with limited prenatal care such as undiagnosed prenatal conditions, enriching their clinical experience in clinical diagnosis and evaluation. Educational activities include:

  • Teaching utilizing high and low fidelity simulation techniques (at Einstein’s Gottesman Simulation Center), thus preparing our fellows to be leading educators in the field of neonatology.
  • Journal club, morbidity and mortality conferences, month in review (a review of clinical cases encountered during your month on service), practice based management seminar series (critically appraised topic discussions using PICO format), neonatology lectures, and fellow board review conferences.
    • Joint maternal-fetal medicine and neonatology case and didactic conferences.
    • Pediatric grand rounds.
    • Departmental research conference
    • Department of Pediatrics Fellow Science Course (3-year curriculum based on ABP specifications).
    • NRP instructor training so that all fellows become hospital-based NRP instructors.
  • Experience in resident education including providing resident instruction in procedural and management strategies for the neonate and assistance with neonatal resuscitation program (NRP) training of residents.
