Toy & Donation Guidelines

You and your group can help us by following our guidelines:

Please make sure that all donations are new and in their original wrapping and not gift-wrapped.

Donations should be appropriate for all our age groups, from infants to teenagers. We care for children as young as a few days old to those who are 21.  It is important that we consider the needs of all of our patients when donations are accepted.  All toy donations will go into our gift inventory and be distributed by our staff for various celebrations, birthdays, holidays, end of treatments and successes while patients are receiving treatment. For the protection of our patient’s health, we reserve the right to restrict visitors from distributing toys on the units to improve infection prevention. We have created age-appropriate gift lists, which will assist you in selecting gifts to donate.

Holiday Donation Guidelines

Thank you for your generous offer to support the patients and families at CHAM with your contribution of gifts and/or volunteerism during the holidays. We appreciate your heartfelt commitment to our hospital community.

During the holiday season, as flu becomes prevalent in NYC, we restrict the number of outside visitors entering into CHAM to visit with patients. Our hospital protocol on donors visiting to distribute gifts has adapted for the safety of our patients. We are limiting the visitors who will come into the inpatient units. We will have special, fun events for our patients and families throughout the holiday season to normalize the experience for them and create a festive atmosphere.

We will organize those gifts and create a “free shopping experience” for our inpatient families so they may come choose gifts for their children for the holidays. We will host a wrapping station for the families to get gifts wrapped. Any items left will be used to stock our playrooms throughout the year.  Your contributions to this effort will make this a very special experience for our families and their children.

If you would like to contribute to gift giving for our patients, we ask that you drop off unwrapped gifts appropriate for all ages no later than December 15, 2017.

Other Ways To Contribute

We greatly appreciate the generosity of outside groups.  There are other ways you and/or your organization can contribute to the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.   These include:

Patient & Family Celebration Fund

During the course of the year, we host a number of special events and parties for patients and their families to normalize their life.  This includes our holiday parties and seasonal events as well as theme days.  You can make a difference by sponsoring these events by contributing to our Celebration Fund.

Book Fund

We are always in need of books to replenish the supply we give out to patients. We can accept new or gently used books as well as monetary donations for buying books.

Bereavement Fund

The loss of a child is a devastating event.  We accept donations toward support programming for these families including an annual memorial service, aftercare services, and memory making supplies.

Volunteer

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore is open to hosting volunteers who can provide time, energy, and talent to working with our patients.  Volunteers must be screened and approved by the Montefiore Medical Center Office of Volunteer Services prior to being placed in a volunteer role.  All volunteers must be over age 16. Processing to become a volunteer may take from 4-6 weeks.  If interested, please contact Program Supervisor of Child Life at 718-741-2556 who will provide you with the forms necessary for clearance.
