Global Health

The mission of the Global Health Program here at CHAM is to address health inequities, in the Bronx and abroad, by training the next generation of global health leaders.

Key elements of the Global Health Program at CHAM include:

  • Global Health Track (see below for more information).
  • Global Health Elective: two-week course offered to PGY2 & PGY3s each fall. 
  • International Experience Support: GH program faculty provide mentorship and support including pre- & post-departure counseling for all residents planning an international site experience.

Global Health Track

Both Categorical and Social Pediatric Residents will have the opportunity to participate in the track starting in PGY-2 year. There is an application process during PGY-1 year including an interview for select candidates.

Core GH track resident requirements:
  • Global Health Elective: two to four weeks
  • Global Health Scholarly project: expectation of publication and/or presentation at national conferences (American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Academic Societies, Consortium of Universities for Global Health, Unite for Sight)
  • International field site experience(s): two- to four-week experience working in collaboration with established partnership site with goal of reinforcing capacity in ongoing implementation science, quality improvement and/or continuing health/medical education
  • Domestic site experience(s): two- to four-week experience in collaboration with organizations serving underserved communities in NYC area working in collaboration with established partnership site
