Social Services
Social workers are a part of the multidisciplinary team and are skilled in conducting psychosocial assessments and providing support and intervention to children and their families. They are also responsible for coordinating discharge planning and case management. Social workers hold a Master of Social Work degree and are certified by the state of New York to practice social work.
Within Pediatrics, social workers cover all inpatient floors and some outpatient services. Their primary concern is to assist families with the adjustment to a child's medical condition while advocating for their emotional, physical and social well-being. Social workers can also help families seek government benefits and long-term planning for children with chronic illnesses.
For more information, please ask your child's nurse to contact your social worker.
