Created by the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore and the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, the Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B'N Fit) program was developed in 2005 to systematically address the issue of adolescent obesity.
B’N Fit’s mission is to provide a safe environment that allows teens to access comprehensive weight loss services. The program teaches teens how to adopt healthy lifelong nutritional and physical activity skills, develop coping competency and enhance their personal responsibility while utilizing multiple resources including their family, social and community programs to achieve personal goals.
Adolescents enroll in a twelve-month program that includes a comprehensive medical, nutritional and psychosocial evaluation. The customized program offers individualized goal-setting, one-on-one sessions with staff, and referrals to community-based adolescent and family-friendly group activities.
The program is available to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 21. This programming seeks to recognize and fulfill the unique needs of each teen and promote his or her sense of well-being.
